Nick's Donation Page

Nick Keller is a great guy. I've known him since he was just a little kid, attending MDA Camp. We shared mutual friends, though we never really got the chance to hang out ourselves. It is with the chance that I've finally had, to call Nick a friend, that I implore you to consider donating to help him convert his minivan, so he can become a more productive citizen.

Nick Keller with Stone ColdNick was born on May 2, 1983. He's about to celebrate his 25th birthday. Nick is a part of my Toledo MDA family, so this is quite an achievement, because we've lost many of our friend/family members to the same disease Nick is fighting every single day. Having been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, at the age of 3, in Columbus, Ohio, Nick's family has known the road would be bumpy for all of them, for quite some time.

Still, I've always known Nick as the type of guy that won't let anything bother him. He was just your average kid in a wheelchair. We'd race chairs and play sports, with the help of our camp counselors. We'd make fun of the stupid Camp activities that involved singing "Kum-by-ya" and things like that. Ultimately, it was a chance for all of us, especially Nick, to get away from our families and just have fun.

Nick attended MDA Camp from the age of 6 until 21. Unfortunately, that's the age of limitation for camp. MDP United wants to change that, but one goal at a time here. As MDP United's founder, I am here to tell you all the great things about Nick so you can know what a great guy he is. You can know where your money is going, if you decide to donate to help him out.

Nick has had his struggles. At the age of 15, he had a trach put in, to help him breathe better. He was one of the youngest guys at Camp that had a trach. He also is on a ventilator 24/7 to help him breathe. These things aren't the easiest to take along with you and with limited access to public transportation, since he lives in the small town of Tiro, Ohio, Nick is unable to get around town or go any of the places the average person can go.

Still, I'm proud to say that today he's doing pretty good. He takes each of the bumps as they come and spends what time he can enjoying the things that matter the most to him. The first, of course, is his family. Nick loves to spend time with his younger sister, Danielle, who is 19. With his two best friends off at college (at OSU) and in the military (stationed in Alaska), Danielle is there to help cure Nick of his boredom.

Nick KellerNick also loves to play pool online. He's a part of a league on Pogo.com. When he's not playing pool he's watching one of the sports he likes. There is football (NCAA - OSU, NFL - Browns, Cowboys), Basketball (Cavs & Lakers), WWE, UFC, Boxing, and Extreme Cagefighting. He also finds solace in music. As Nick says, "it helps get me through the bad times and good times."

With all this in mind, I ask that you consider giving Nick the assistance he needs, by helping him to modify his minivan. To do that, they have received an estimate of $19,000 USD. You can help Nick out through a cash, credit card, or check donation. You can also help Nick out by spreading the word about his page. This is what MDP United plans to do for those of us with Muscular Dystrophy. Raise money to get us the equipment we need. Until we're more established, please help Nick out. He's a great guy and I'm glad to call him my friend.
