Welcome to the Muscular Dystrophy Patients United Website
We are a relatively new group serving the needs of patients with Muscular Dystrophy in the United States. At this point, our organization is still in its inception. At some point, we hope to be able to provide multiple services for families and patients afflicted with one of the 40+ neuromuscular diseases covered under the umbrella term Muscular Dystrophy worldwide. For now, we are providing services on an as needed basis until our organization grows.
Unlike other organizations that are associated with Muscular Dystrophy, we do not raise any money towards a cure. Other Muscular Dystrophy organizations devote most of their time and money to finding a cure already. Instead, MDP United focuses on those who are living every day with a neuromuscular disease. Instead, the money raised by MDP United will go to services, equipment, and patient support. For example, MDP United hopes to one day offer their own summer camp for children and adults with Muscular Dystrophy.
Our goal is for patients to receive help paying for costly equipment insurance and other organizations will not or cannot pay for such as high tech wheelchair gadgets, braces, van lifts, ramps, hospital beds, bathroom modifications such as grab bars and roll-in showers, commodes, and Hoyer lifts. Additionally, we would eventually like to offer patients across the country, special clinic visits.
The primary mission of MDP United is working towards improving the quality of life for individuals with Muscular Dystrophy who live in the United States. One day, we at MDP United hope to have our own branch of the MDP United main office in at least one city in every state across the nation and in Canada. For now, our efforts are focusing specifically on fundraising in the SE-Michigan/NW-Ohio area as this is the location of the MDP United Headquarters. However, volunteers are welcome to have fundraisers across the country as the money raised will go to patients all over the U.S..
MDP United does not discriminate against any individual based on age, race, sex, ethnicity, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, or disability. We are not here for just one group with a neuromuscular disease. We are here for everyone. It is of our firm belief that everyone with Muscular Dystrophy deserves the same services and fair treatment to maintain a sense of dignity and self-worth.
At the present time, we are looking for volunteers in the Mid-Michigan (Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint) and NW-Ohio (Toledo, Defiance) area for fundraisers. If you are interested in volunteering for MDP United or wish to discuss hosting a fundraiser in your own community outside of SE Michigan or NW Ohio, please contact us.
